The Role of the Principal in the Management of Educational Facilities and Infrastructure at SMK Mahyal Ulum Al-Aziziyah.

Abstract

Facilities and infrastructure management plays a crucial role in supporting the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. SMK Mahyal Ulum Al-Aziziyah is one of the schools where the availability of facilities and infrastructure is still relatively limited, making proper management essential. This study aims to identify: (1) the role of the principal in improving the management of educational facilities and infrastructure; and (2) the strategies implemented by the principal in managing these resources. This research was conducted from July 10 to August 10, 2023, at SMK Mahyal Ulum Al-Aziziyah. The subjects of the study included the principal, the vice principal of facilities and infrastructure, and school operators. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive techniques, including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through triangulation techniques. The findings reveal that the principal plays multiple roles, including as a manager, administrator, and leader. As a manager, the principal is responsible for planning, organizing resources, and implementing programs. As an administrator, the principal manages documentation such as planning, procurement, utilization, and reporting. As a leader, the principal oversees accountability for all activities. Strategic efforts include planning procurement, acquiring resources through purchases and grants, conducting rehabilitation, and establishing cooperation, as well as managing inventory, storage, maintenance, and utilization effectively.
