Abstract

Moral development is one of the primary objectives of Islamic education that must be realized through the educational process in schools. Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers play an essential role in shaping students’ character and behavior in accordance with moral values and Islamic teachings. This study aims to examine the strategies used by Islamic Religious Education teachers in fostering students’ moral character at SMA Negeri 1 Meurah Mulia, as well as identifying the supporting and inhibiting factors in the process. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants consisted of the principal, vice principal for student affairs, Islamic Religious Education teachers, counseling teachers, and students. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the strategies implemented by PAI teachers in fostering students’ moral character include exemplary behavior, habituation of religious practices, emotional approaches, and providing motivation and religious advice. Supporting factors include cooperation between teachers, schools, and parents, as well as a religious school environment. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include peer influence, lack of parental supervision, and uncontrolled use of technology. Therefore, collaboration between schools, families, and communities is essential in fostering students' moral development effectively.
